Dungeon Regular: Feedback Reachout

Ok, so I’m thinking about Dungeon Regular, and how it’s a minisode format of about 5 minutes. I’ve got some listeners, but not bucketloads. I’m wondering if this micro content would be better suited to Tiktok or Instagram, to be honest, but I’m not sure how much of the elfgame dungeon design crowd doomscroll on video platforms vs listen to a podcast.

I’m looking for feedback here: Is micro design advice better situated as a podcast, or as short video content?

  1. Hey Idle Cartulary!

Hope you’re well – I love your blog and was pleasantly surprised to learn you had a podcast too. I didn’t realize is until I saw this post, but I listened through a few episodes and really like the format (and the idea – there is such a huge backlog of Dungeon issues).

Just casting my thoughts: I personally really like your current format – RSS is basically always my preferred way to subscribe to things (no need for an account and you’re not locked into an app). That said, I think I’m probably a bit unusual in that, and I know discoverability is potentially a lot higher on the other platforms.

Either way, thank you for publishing, and hope your summer’s treating you well.

  2. Your current format works well for me. I tend to prefer audio podcasts to videos, and being able to sort them in an RSS is useful. If you do go forward with posting to Instagram or TikTok, I hope you still post the show as a podcast as well.

  3. The episodes I have listened to are very conceptually dense.

Often I will re-listen after reading the module covered. I would definitely miss the ability to do so in those ephemeral formats.

Or, to echo the previous comment: RSS is the bestest.

Threshold of Evil Dungeon Regular

Dungeon Regular is a show about modules, adventures and dungeons. I’m Nova, also known as Idle Cartulary and I’m reading through Dungeon magazine, one module at a time, picking a few favourite things in that adventure module, and talking about them. On this episode I talk about Threshold of Evil, in Issue #10, March 1988!
